The Rifleman is the backbone to every fighting force. Although it 
probably doesn't sound like a very interesting role, it is by far the
most important. Armed with the M1 Garand rifle and carrying
a large ammo load, each rifleman packed a lot of firepower.
To hlep spread the load for the support weapons, each
rifleman also carried either one 250 round .30 belt or a
60mm mortar round during the jump which was pooled
when on the ground.
